AI Wardrobe OrganizerKombinle

A self-initiated app that uses AI to automatically scan, organize, and group outfit photos from your phone gallery, with no manual sorting.

Project Overview

Kombinle started with a personal frustration: outfit photos, both saved inspiration and my own looks, kept piling up in my phone gallery with no easy way to organize them. Kombinle uses AI to scan the gallery, find outfit photos, and group them into meaningful collections by color, occasion, or season, so there's no manual sorting at all.

My Role

Sole designer and developer. I designed the full product experience and built it end-to-end with Claude and Claude's design tools, taking it from concept to a working app that I use myself and have shared with friends.

  • Identified the problem and defined the product concept from personal need
  • Designed the full UI/UX, from onboarding to collection management
  • Built the app end-to-end with AI-assisted development (Claude)

Understanding the Problem

This wasn't formal user research. It came from my own pain point and was later validated informally through daily use and feedback from friends who tested it. The core problem: people save and take far more outfit photos than they ever organize. Manual sorting is tedious enough that most people simply stop doing it, leaving a messy, unsearchable gallery.

1. Value-first onboarding before requesting gallery access

  • Problem: Asking for full gallery access upfront, without context, tends to feel invasive and lowers opt-in.
  • Decision: A two-step onboarding first explains the value ("All Your Outfits in One Place"), then the mechanism ("Scan Your Gallery with AI"), before the "Scan My Gallery" action is requested.
  • Rationale: Framing a permission request with clear benefit and mechanism first builds trust and increases the likelihood users complete the scan.

2. AI-automated grouping over manual tagging

  • Problem: Manually sorting dozens or hundreds of outfit photos by color, occasion, or season is tedious; most people start but never finish.
  • Decision: "AI Smart Curation" automatically groups scanned photos into thematic collections (e.g. "Brown Combinations," "Office Combinations," "Daily Combinations") without requiring manual tagging.
  • Rationale: Removing manual effort is the core value of the app. It organizes photos quietly in the background, so users get value with zero setup.

3. Editable collections for manual override

  • Problem: Fully automated organization can feel rigid when AI groupings don't quite match personal preference.
  • Decision: Every collection can be opened and edited: renamed, photos added or removed, and custom tags applied (e.g. "Office," "Sport," specific brands).
  • Rationale: Balances automation with control: users get the speed of AI curation while retaining the ability to fine-tune, which builds long-term trust in the system.

4. Persistent quick-add action

  • Problem: Adding a new outfit photo or starting a new collection needs to be fast, from anywhere in the app.
  • Decision: A persistent floating action button gives three shortcuts (Create AI, Add Photo, Add Collection) that are available at all times.
  • Rationale: Keeps the most frequent actions one tap away regardless of screen depth, reducing friction for repeat use.
